A new blood test method found over 1,200 new gene-protein links in South Asian volunteers.
Maik Pietzner, Alice Williamson et al., Nanoparticle-enriched mass spectrometry proteomics in British South Asians identifies links between genetic variants, plasma protein levels and disease risk, Nature Genetics.
A new lab method measured thousands of proteins in blood from about 1,400 British South Asian people. It found over 1,200 links between genes and protein levels, and more than half were never seen before. The method also pointed to 21 proteins that may play a role in 44 diseases. One of these proteins showed a new link to a thyroid disease called Graves' disease.
The number of new links found between genes and blood protein levels in about 1,400 people.
One group only, British South Asians, findings may not transfer to other ancestries.
