Lucent is a science newsletter. We collect as little personal data as we can: no analytics, no advertising trackers, and no cookies of our own. This page explains, in plain language, what we do process and why.
Ben BLN&everywhere GmbH, Frankendorfer Steig 7, 13467 Berlin, Germany (managing director: Sami Benchekroun) is the controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). You can reach us at hello@readlucent.com.
readlucent.com is served by Cloudflare, Inc. When you visit, Cloudflare processes technical connection data (such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages requested) in server logs to deliver the site and protect it against attacks. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR). We run no analytics and set no cookies; Cloudflare may set strictly technical cookies for security purposes.
If you subscribe, we process your email address to send you the newsletter. We use double opt-in: you receive a confirmation email and are only subscribed once you click the link in it. We record the confirmation to be able to prove your consent. Legal basis: your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR), which you can withdraw at any time using the unsubscribe link in every email or by writing to us.
The newsletter is sent through Kit (ConvertKit LLC, USA), which stores your email address and delivery data (such as whether an email arrived) on our behalf. Transfers to the USA are protected by EU standard contractual clauses and, where applicable, the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.
We keep your email address until you unsubscribe.
If you buy a paid subscription, payment is handled by Stripe (Stripe Payments Europe, Ltd., Ireland). Your card details go directly to Stripe; we never see or store them. Stripe tells us which email address has an active subscription, and we store that status to deliver the full issues you paid for. Legal basis: performance of the contract (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Stripe is an independent controller for its payment processing; see the Stripe privacy policy.
You can also complain to a data protection authority. The one responsible for us is the Berliner Beauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit.
If we change what we process, we will update this page and the date above.
