In a simulated universe, star forming galaxies drift inward, throwing off growth rate measurements.

Galaxies that glow with active star formation are used to map the large-scale structure of the universe. In a computer simulation, these glowing galaxies tend to fall inward toward the center of their dark matter clumps. This inward motion makes scientists underestimate a key number that describes how fast cosmic structures grow. The bias disappears when scientists only look at very large distances, beyond about 15 times 3.26 million light years.
