In computer models, a brain-like rule helped robot swarms agree faster, even with biased robots.

Groups of simple robots can make faster, more reliable group decisions by copying a trick from ant colonies and brain cells. The trick is called cross inhibition. It means each robot's support for one choice quietly weakens its support for other choices. This worked better than a simpler copying rule, even when robots had personal quirks that could skew their judgment.
