In lab-grown cells, tiny shared channels between cells calm down wild electrical noise in each cell.

Cells send tiny electric signals across their outer membranes, but these signals are usually too small to see clearly. A new imaging tool called rEstus2s can now detect these very small signals in groups of cells. Using this tool, scientists found that cells connected to their neighbors through tiny shared channels keep their electric signals much steadier than cells alone. When these channel connections were blocked, the wild ups and downs came back, showing the connections cause the calm.
Shows lab evidence that shared channels between cells stabilize tiny voltage signals, not effects in living organisms.
