Risk stratification for MDR/RR-TB: a comprehensive integrated patient-level analysis from TB programs and contemporary clinical trials
A risk score using patient traits predicts who fails drug-resistant tuberculosis treatment.
Maria Garcia-Cremades, Jonathon R. Campbell et al.
A new scoring tool can sort tuberculosis patients into risk groups before treatment starts. It uses traits like HIV infection, older age, low body weight, smoking, and severe lung damage to predict who is more likely to fail treatment. Low-risk patients did much better than high-risk patients, and this held true even with a newer, shorter 6-month drug plan.
Treatment success rates for low-risk versus medium-to-high-risk patients on a 6-month drug plan.
Based on past records of 7,750 patients, not a live trial of the score itself.
