Single-cell heterogeneity of adipose eosinophils is shaped by sex and RELMα and linked to macrophage communication networks in obesity

In mice, fat tissue immune cells called eosinophils split into six types shaped by sex and a protein.

Rebecca E Ruggiero-Ruff, Xinru Qiu et al.

Fat tissue immune cells called eosinophils come in six different types in mice, not just one. Which types show up depends on sex, worm infection, and a protein called RELMα. Female mice and worm-infected mice have more calming, protective eosinophil types. Male mice and mice without RELMα have more inflammatory types, with different signals passing to another immune cell called macrophages.
