A new genetic letter swap made cells build more protein, faster, with fewer errors than the current method.

A new way to build mRNA medicines could make them work better. Companies make mRNA shots and treatments by swapping out one of the four genetic letters. This swap stops the body's immune system from attacking the mRNA before it can work. The current standard swap does this job well, but it slows down the cell's protein making machinery. This slowdown cuts protein output and causes reading errors. This study found a different letter swap that calms the immune system just as well. This new swap lets the protein making machinery run faster. Faster reading meant more protein and fewer mistakes.
