Mitochondrial carbonic anhydrase-VB inhibition rescues brain endothelial stress and memory in Alzheimer’s disease models

In mice and human cells, blocking one protein protected brain blood vessels and preserved memory.

Nicole L. Lemon, Elisa Canepa et al.

A protein found inside tiny energy factories in brain blood vessel cells adds to damage seen in Alzheimer's disease. Blocking this protein protected these cells from dying when exposed to sticky brain plaques. In mice bred to get Alzheimer's, blocking the protein also lowered brain inflammation and helped the mice remember things better.

What it could change Blocking one protein shielded brain blood vessel cells and kept mouse memory intact.

Shows protection in human cells and mice, not yet tested in people.

Mice and lab cells only, no human trial yet.
